1. Blood of Olympus
The continuation of Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series. It's a fun mashup of mythology and modernity. Technically, it's classed as Juvenile fiction, but at this point in the series I'd certainly say it's more geared towards teens. (And awesome Moms, of course.)
2. The Elite
This is the second book in Kiera Cass's Selections series. I read the first book based on a recommendation of a fellow blogger. It's a teen dystopian (sort of) romance. It's engaging and a fast read.
3. Spark Joy
Ok, technically I haven't actually started this book yet. However, I am super excited because I just checked and I am only three holds away from getting it from the library! Whoot! I think I started at position 126, so that's real progress! It's the second book by Marie Kondo, of the
Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up fame. I read the first book and was inspired. (It's not perfect, but it's good.)
4. Biggest Loser: Six Weeks to a Healthier You
I've been a
Biggest Loser fan since the first season. I think (just about) any show that can encourage and inspire healthier living should be applauded. (When I re-read that sentence I started coming up with bizarre show concepts that could be pro-healthier living, but still not be something I would applaud.) The continual rise of obesity in the US is disturbing to say the least. Now that I'm in a non-pregnant and non-nursing stage of life again (for now) it's time to get back in shape.
5. Anne of Green Gables
I am reading the
Illustrated Classic version aloud to Catherine. I have owned this book since I was seven. It's just alright, in my humble opinion. There was quite a bit lost in the re-writing for this version, but Catherine does enjoy looking at the pictures. When I was young, probably about twelve or so I was ecstatic to discover that there were more Anne-with-an-E books, including a better version (the real one!) of the book I read as a little child! The whole set gets a prominent spot on my bookshelf.
(I don't actually own this set so I can't speak to it's quality, but there's a whole
Anne of Green Gables Collection for the Kindle for only $0.99! That seems to be a spectacular deal.)
6. The Winnie the Pooh Storybook Collection
This book was one of the kids' Christmas presents. It was totally worth the five bucks we spent on Black Friday. (Yep, Black Friday is good for more than just electronics!)
7. The Foot Book
Now that
Chick-o-Saurus Rex has finally been returned to the library, this has been Dominic's number one pick. Yesterday I read it 37 times. I am so glad that Catherine can read it to him too. I think she read it to him a dozen or so times yesterday. (And at least three times while I was writing this post.) A part of me never wants to say no to a request from my kids to read a book, but another part of me . . . well, you know.
