I love how bright this cute crocheted Elegant Hat is! I'm glad that I finally rescued it from the land of Works In Progress where it's been for a long time.
The yarn is one of my favorites. It's Simply Soft in Blue Mint. I had picked it up on sale at Michael's ages ago. (I almost always pick up Simply Soft when it's a good deal!) The blue is just so cheerful and happy!
The free pattern (here it is on Ravelry) is easy to follow, and doesn't require many fancy skills. It is also easily adaptable, which is always good. While my three year old is the one modeling this hat, it will stretch quite a bit and it is a little large on her, so it's really a lady's hat. (Also, she has *ahem* a slightly larger than average head.)
My pattern changes include: substituting a flower for the bow, not doing the reverse single crochet in the band, and slip stitching around the bottom of the brim. I also used a size "I" hook and added a few rows to the base. I tend to crochet very tightly, and that really affects the size of the hat!
I didn't pay attention to guage at all on this one, and ended up making one too small!

Adorable!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is a very nice hat and cute model. I'd like to try making one. Thanks for the link. I already saved it my computer. I'll be repining too.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful hat :-) I love the color; gotta love it when yarn's on sale! I think the flower is prettier than the bow. Thanks for sharing :-)

ReplyDeleteYour little lady is so adorable in her hat. I love the flower you added as an accessory. It adds a lot of character to the hat.
ReplyDeleteYour little girl enjoys modeling this lovely hat, obviously. It's so cute and it must be comfy and soft. It's like a fashion statement winter hat; a rare commodity. Thanks for sharing at Lines Across My Face.
ReplyDeleteWould you mind sharing the pattern for the flower on your hat?
ReplyDeleteWell, it was one of those "start crocheting and see what happens" flowers -- so there isn't really a pattern. I do have a rose pattern that I like, which can be found here: http://philwife.blogspot.com/2012/03/crocheted-rose-broach.html
DeleteI really love this hat! Looks great on your daughter, and worked up in such a beautiful colorway. I've picked it as my Philosopher Favorite in our latest Yarn Fanatic Party, #27.
